About Ellis Michaels

Ellis Michaels has never been content doing just one thing. He’s a writer, musician, and comedian who’s happiest when juggling too many creative projects at once. Based just south of Boston, Ellis has authored several books and also occasionally releases original music.

📚 Writing

Since 2014, Ellis has published multiple sci-fi and fantasy novels, including The Bloodfeast Trilogy (LitRPG), Ordinary Hero (LitRPG), Bad Unicorn (YA), and the satirical fantasy novel, Snow. His fiction mixes humor, grit, imagination, and absurdity. Ellis also writes nonfiction including a memoir about living with a rare illness (mentioned below under Life & Perspective) and has authored hundreds of articles about writing, psychology, philosophy, fitness, and more (some of which you can find in the Blog section).

🎵 Music

Ellis started young; classical piano lessons at seven, snare drum in the school marching band, and a beat-up acoustic guitar borrowed from a friend at thirteen. By fourteen, he was wielding a used electric guitar, skipping school to play until his fingers bled. That obsession landed him in his first band during high school, then in a nationally touring rock band in his late teens. Ellis quit the band a couple years later but never stopped playing music.

Fast forward twenty years and Ellis decided to start writing and releasing music. He’s written and recorded two full-length rock albums, playing all the instruments himself. Denihilism is 12 tracks of heavy, punk-inspired rock released in 2024. Since then, Ellis has recorded and released two acoustic EPs and several acoustic singles. His most recent singer/songwriter-style EP is called Tanning In The Moonlight

🎭 Comedy

Under the name MusicBSharp, Ellis produces music-related comedy that blends insider knowledge with sharp humor. His videos have reached millions online, proving that you can roast the industry and still love it.

🩺 Life & Perspective

Ellis has spent most of his life living with Behcet’s disease, a rare autoimmune/autoinflammatory condition. In 2020, he published his memoir Finding Happiness Through Pain and Embarrassment – My Life With Behcet’s Disease, sharing his story with the same mix of honesty and humor that defines his creative work.

Before going full-time into creative work, he spent 15 years in the mental health field and put himself through college as an EMT.

🌊 Beyond the Work

When he’s not creating, Ellis might be reading, kayaking, hiking, at the beach, or spending time with his son. He’s a lifelong Red Sox fan, a believer in squeezing the most out of life, and a firm supporter of doing things your own way – even if it breaks the rules.
